Riot Games launched an interesting initiative allowing different studios to develop titles across multiple genres using characters from the League of Legends universe. One of those projects is 2XKO, a fighting game that has been in development for several years and is finally starting to show its true potential.
2XKO’s control system is designed to be accessible for all types of players, yet it’s far from shallow. Beneath its apparent simplicity lies a deep combat system that encourages experimentation and allows players to pull off stunning combos that truly impress.
The core gameplay revolves around 2v2 battles, offering great versatility by letting players mix and match champions’ abilities. The game is completely free-to-play, with a progression system based on unlocking characters through matches and missions. There’s also the option to use real money to speed up the process. While this isn’t currently an issue since only 11 characters are available it could become overwhelming in the future if the roster ever reaches the massive scale of League of Legends, which boasts over 150 champions.
At the moment, 2XKO offers somewhat limited content: an Arcade mode, a Tutorial, Local Versus, and Online. Although basic, the combat system keeps things entertaining for a while. However, the lack of variety and availability on only one platform diminish its long-term appeal.
In conclusion, 2XKO is a fun and refreshing addition to the League of Legends universe. While it still needs more content and game modes to truly stand out, what’s currently available is solid, accessible, and promising for the future.
