The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep got a release date

Fans of the dark fantasy series, The Witcher, have a reason to rejoice as Netflix has officially confirmed the release of a new animated movie titled “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep”. Set to hit screens on February 11, 2025, this feature-length anime is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story, “A Little Sacrifice”.

A little context about the short story collections from the author…

Originally, “Blood of Elves” was considered the first book in The Witcher series, and while Geralt of Rivia is the protagonist, it did not serve as a good introduction for new readers in the long term.

Then, Andrzej Sapkowski began publishing short stories within The Witcher communities. By 1992, he released the book “Sword of Destiny,” followed a year later by “The Last Wish,” which served as collections of stories designed to prepare readers by introducing important facts about Geralt that frequently appear in “Blood of Elves.”

Despite the order of their releases, people consider “The Last Wish” to be chronologically first rather than following the release date with “Sword of Destiny.” As a result, they are often referred to as ‘Book 0.1’ and ‘Book 0.2’, with “The Last Wish” being labeled ‘Book 0.1’ because it provides more background on Geralt.

“A Little Sacrifice” is part of the short story collection contained in the “Sword of Destiny” book.

The story follows Geralt of Rivia and his companion, Dandelion, as they venture to the port town of Bremervoord. They are hired by a local prince to help woo a mermaid named Sh’eenaz. However, things take a dramatic turn when both lovers realize they are unwilling to give up their current lifestyles, leading to a near-war between the two kingdoms.

One of the most exciting aspects of this new film is the return of Doug Cockle as the voice of Geralt. Cockle, known for his iconic portrayal of Geralt in the Witcher games, will be taking over from Henry Cavill, who voiced the character in the live-action series. Additionally, Joey Batey will reprise his role as Jaskier, while Anya Chalotra will voice Yennefer. Newcomer Christina Wren will join the cast as Essi Daven.

The film promises to be a visual spectacle, featuring stunning underwater scenes, epic battles with merfolk, and a host of new monsters. Studio Mir, known for their work on “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf”, is once again behind the animation, ensuring high-quality visuals and action-packed sequences.

“The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” is not just about action; it delves into Geralt’s emotional journey as he navigates new relationships and confronts his past. Fans can look forward to a mix of thrilling combat and heartfelt moments, making it a must-watch for any Witcher enthusiast.

The Witcher IV: A New Saga Begins

The Witcher franchise has captivated gamers worldwide with its rich storytelling, complex characters, and immersive world. Now, CD Projekt Red is set to continue this legacy with The Witcher IV, previously known by its codename Project Polaris.

The most exciting update came during The Game Awards 2024, where CD Projekt Red unveiled the first official look at The Witcher IV. The cinematic trailer introduced Ciri as the new protagonist, taking on a witcher contract in a remote village plagued by a fearsome monster.

This reveal confirmed that Ciri would be at the heart of the new saga, exploring what it means to truly become a witcher.

In The Witcher IV, players will step into the shoes of Ciri, Geralt of Rivia’s adopted daughter. The game will follow her journey as she takes on the mantle of a witcher, facing new challenges and uncovering ancient mysteries. This shift in focus from Geralt to Ciri offers a fresh perspective and allows players to explore the world of The Witcher through her eyes.

The Witcher IV promises to be the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game will feature stunning visuals and a richly detailed world. Players can expect a blend of familiar gameplay mechanics, such as using signs and potions, along with new abilities and tools unique to Ciri.

The Announcement of Project Polaris

In 2022, CD Projekt Red announced Project Polaris, marking the beginning of a new Witcher saga. This announcement generated immense excitement among fans, eager to see what the future holds for the beloved series. The developers hinted at a fresh storyline and new characters, setting the stage for an epic adventure.

Entering Full-Scale Production

By November 2024, Project Polaris had officially entered full-scale production. This milestone was a significant step forward, with around 400 developers, or two-thirds of CD Projekt Red’s team, dedicated to bringing the game to life. The transition from pre-production to full-scale production indicated that the game was progressing well and moving closer to its eventual release.

The Witcher IV is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the franchise, with Ciri taking center stage in a new saga. As the game continues to develop, fans can look forward to more updates and a deeper dive into the world of The Witcher. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the series, The Witcher IV promises to deliver an unforgettable adventure filled with magic, monsters, and mystery.

CD Projekt Red announces big Cyberpunk 2077 & The Witcher news

In a major announcement, CD Projekt Red has revealed that The Witcher 4, codenamed Project Polaris, has entered full-scale production. This marks a significant milestone for the studio as they gear up to develop the first installment in a new Witcher trilogy.

Alongside this exciting news, CD Projekt Red also announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed 30 million copies sold worldwide.

The Witcher 4, also part of Project Polaris (the new trilogy including a new story line which will not focus on Geralt Of Rivia), has moved from pre-production to full-scale development. CD Projekt Red’s joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, expressed pride in the team’s progress and dedication to delivering a remarkable experience.

And two Cyberpunk news

Cyberpunk 2077 continues to perform strongly in the market, with the game recently crossing the 30 million copies sold milestone. The Phantom Liberty expansion, which featured actor Idris Elba in a major role, has sold over eight million copies since its release in September 2023.

These impressive figures highlight the game’s enduring popularity and the dedicated community that continues to support it.

Also, CD Projekt announced last October that it was collaborating with media company Anonymous Content on a live-action project set in the world of Cyberpunk and also, this week it was confirmed that it’s working on a new Cyberpunk animation project which will be released on Netflix, but at this time is unknown if this will serve another storyline or will follow Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

In addition to The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red is working on several other projects. These include a new IP codenamed Project Hadar, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 codenamed Project Orion, and a new game set in the Witcher universe titled Project Sirius.
