Bungie’s Marathon Launches March 5 with Multiple Editions

Bungie is preparing to bring back one of its most iconic names in gaming. Marathon, the studio’s bold PvPvE extraction shooter, will officially release on March 5, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. More than just a revival, this new Marathon is a complete reimagining of Bungie’s 1990s sci-fi classic, designed for modern multiplayer audiences.

A Universe Reborn

Set on the hostile world of Tau Ceti IV, players take on the role of Runners—bio-cybernetic mercenaries who scavenge abandoned facilities and alien landscapes for resources, weapons, and answers to humanity’s lost expedition. The United Earth Space Council (UESC) stands in opposition, while rival crews and hostile forces make every mission a high-stakes survival encounter. Bungie’s hallmark storytelling ensures that lore and mystery are deeply embedded in the competitive gameplay loop.

Editions of Marathon

Bungie is offering several editions of Marathon, each tailored to different types of players.

Standard Edition

The entry point for all players, the Standard Edition includes the full game experience. It’s the foundation for anyone eager to dive into Bungie’s new universe.

Deluxe Edition

For those who want to start with extra flair, the Deluxe Edition expands the package with:

  • Midnight Decay weapon skin bundle
  • Runner shell cosmetic bundle
  • Premium Rewards Pass voucher
  • 200 Silk, the in-game currency

This edition is designed to give players a head start in customizing their Runner and unlocking rewards.

Collector’s Edition

The most comprehensive package, the Collector’s Edition includes all Deluxe content plus a premium unboxing experience inspired by Sekiguchi Genetics’ shell-weaving process. This edition is aimed at fans who want a tangible piece of Bungie’s world, blending lore with collector appeal.

Hardware Tie-Ins

Sony is complementing the launch with hardware designed to immerse players further. The Limited Edition DualSense controller, priced at around $85, features a design inspired by Marathon’s visual identity and will be available on release day. Preorders open January 29, 2026, through PlayStation Direct.

Additionally, PlayStation announced the Pulse Elite headset, retailing at $169.99 in the U.S., launching alongside the controller. Together, these accessories highlight Sony’s commitment to positioning Marathon as a flagship multiplayer experience on PS5.

Why the Editions Matter

Bungie’s multi-tiered release strategy mirrors its approach with Destiny, offering layered rewards and collector appeal. The Standard Edition ensures accessibility, the Deluxe Edition caters to players who want immediate customization and progression, and the Collector’s Edition provides a premium, lore-rich experience for dedicated fans.

By combining these editions with PlayStation’s hardware tie-ins, Bungie and Sony are positioning Marathon not just as a game, but as a cultural event in 2026.
