CD Projekt Red is going full throttle with a surprising expectation of Cyberpunk 2077 Nintendo Switch 2 version

When Cyberpunk 2077 first launched in 2020, it was met with both excitement and controversy. While the game’s ambitious open-world design and gripping narrative were praised, its performance on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One left much to be desired. Players encountered severe frame rate drops, texture pop-ins, and long loading times, making the experience frustrating for many. Fast forward to 2025, and CD Projekt Red is now claiming that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 will be superior to its PS4 and Xbox One counterparts.

Why is the Switch 2 Version Better?

According to Tim Green, an engineer at CD Projekt Red, the Switch 2 hardware has allowed the developers to create a version of Cyberpunk 2077 that surpasses the previous-generation console editions. Here’s why:

1. Improved Resolution and Performance

  • The Switch 2 version will run at 1080p in both quality and performance modes when docked, and at 720p in performance mode when played in handheld mode.
  • Unlike the PS4 version, which struggled to maintain 30 FPS, the Switch 2 edition benefits from Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), ensuring smoother gameplay.

2. Faster Storage and Load Times

  • One of the biggest issues with Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One was the slow storage speeds, leading to long loading times and texture pop-ins.
  • The Switch 2 features UFS 3.1 storage, which operates at 2,100 MB/s, compared to the 100 MB/s speed of the PS4’s hard drive. This means faster asset streaming, reducing popping issues and ensuring a more seamless experience.

3. More Memory for a Smoother Experience

  • The PS4 had only 5 GB of usable RAM, which severely limited Cyberpunk 2077’s ability to render complex environments.
  • The Switch 2 boasts 12 GB of RAM, with at least 10 GB available for games, allowing for better texture loading and fewer graphical compromises.

We are currently targeting 1080p resolution in TV quality mode, TV performance mode, and handheld quality mode—and targeting 720p performance in handheld performance mode.

Switch 2 docked play offers more power, Green added, “but [the game] still utilizes Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) when players take it on the go.

Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a tremendous amount of ongoing love as we’ve continued to improve the game. In bringing the Ultimate Edition to Nintendo Switch 2 we were able to build on top of that already solid base.

Development still had challenges, of course, as any development process does, but we’ve been careful in picking tradeoffs to not compromise the game’s vision.

We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory.

And the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result.

CD Projekt Red’s Optimism

Despite the challenges of porting such a demanding game to a hybrid console, CD Projekt Red remains confident in the Switch 2 version. Green acknowledged that the development process was not without difficulties, but the team was able to make smart sacrifices without compromising the core vision of the game.

With the Ultimate Edition of Cyberpunk 2077 launching alongside the Switch 2, players will get to experience both the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion in one package. Given the improvements in resolution, performance, storage speed, and memory, this version might just be the redemption Cyberpunk 2077 needed on consoles.

Set your expectations for the physical Nintendo Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077

Now doubt that the the gaming world is abuzz with excitement as CD Projekt Red announces the arrival of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2. This groundbreaking move marks a significant milestone in the evolution of portable gaming, bringing one of the most ambitious RPGs to a handheld console.

Performance and Graphics

The Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 promises a unique experience tailored to the console’s capabilities. Running at 40 FPS in performance mode while docked, the game showcases the technical prowess of the Switch 2. While this frame rate may not match the coveted 60 FPS standard, it is a testament to the console’s ability to handle graphically demanding titles.

One of the standout features of this release is the inclusion of the entire game and its Phantom Liberty expansion on a 64GB game card. Unlike many other titles, which require additional downloads, Cyberpunk 2077 offers a complete experience straight out of the box. This move is a refreshing change, especially for players who prefer physical copies.

Pricing and Availability

Set to launch on June 5, 2025, the game will be available for $70. This pricing aligns with the industry’s trend for premium titles, reflecting the game’s extensive content and the effort to optimize it for the Switch 2.

The adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077 for the Switch 2 is more than just a technical achievement; it signals a shift in the gaming landscape. By bringing AAA titles to portable consoles, developers are redefining the boundaries of gaming accessibility and performance. This release could pave the way for more high-profile games to make their way to handheld platforms.

As the gaming community eagerly awaits the launch, Cyberpunk 2077 on the Nintendo Switch 2 promises to be a game-changer. Whether you’re a fan of the dystopian world of Night City or simply curious about the capabilities of the Switch 2, this release is one to watch.

CD Projekt Red has made a big promise for Cyberpunk 2077 sequel regarding NPCs

Cyberpunk 2077, developed by CD Projekt Red, has been a topic of much discussion since its rocky launch in 2020. Despite the initial setbacks, the game has made a remarkable recovery, thanks to continuous updates and the highly praised Phantom Liberty DLC expansion. Now, CD Projekt Red is gearing up for an even more ambitious project: the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion.

One of the most exciting promises of Project Orion is the development of the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date. According to a recent job listing, CD Projekt Red is looking for a lead encounter designer to create memorable combat encounters and craft experiences that cater to all play styles. This new crowd system aims to make NPCs (non-player characters) more lifelike and interactive, enhancing the immersion of the game.

What Makes This Crowd System Special?

The new crowd system will not only feature realistic animations but also reactive behaviors. Unlike previous games where NPCs would simply run away or ignore the player, the NPCs in Project Orion will interact with the player in more meaningful ways. This could include forming crowds that react to violence, assisting or hindering the player based on the situation, and even engaging in combat themselves.

Learning from Past Mistakes

CD Projekt Red has openly acknowledged the issues faced during the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and has committed to learning from those mistakes. The success of the Phantom Liberty DLC, which added more life to Night City’s inhabitants and surroundings, has shown that the developer is capable of delivering high-quality content. With Project Orion, CD Projekt Red aims to take this a step further by creating a truly immersive and dynamic crowd system.

The gaming community has been abuzz with excitement and speculation about the new crowd system. Many players have compared it to the crowd systems in games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V, wondering if Project Orion can surpass them. Some have even debated whether the developers should create an entirely new city or improve and evolve the existing Night City.

While CD Projekt Red hasn’t disclosed a release date for Project Orion, the promise of the most realistic and reactive crowd system is a tantalizing glimpse into the future of gaming. If the developer can deliver on this promise, it could set a new standard for crowd interactions in video games, making Project Orion a game to watch out for.

Surprising Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2 is About New Ways to Express Yourself

Cyberpunk 2077 continues to evolve and captivate its player base with the release of Update 2.2, introducing a variety of new features designed to enhance player customization and immersion in the vibrant world of Night City.

Of course, the entry of a surprising new Update is a big deal as since early this year, CD Projekt Red told its investor that further Cyberpunk 2077 development has ceased with the integration of its team in both Project Polaris (The Witcher new triology) and Project Orion (Cyberpunk 2077 sequel).

Enhanced Character Customization

One of the most exciting aspects of Update 2.2 is the addition of over 100 new customization options for the protagonist, V. Players can now tweak every aspect of their character’s appearance, from hairstyles and tattoos to clothing and accessories. This extensive customization suite allows players to create a truly unique version of V, reflecting their personal style and preferences.

Vehicle Customization

In a city where your ride speaks volumes about who you are, the new vehicle customization options are a game-changer. Players can now use CrystalCoat and TWINTONE features to design their cars with unique colors and patterns. Whether you prefer a sleek, monochrome finish or a bold, eye-catching design, these new tools let you transform your vehicle into a reflection of your character’s persona.

Improved Photo Mode

For those who love to capture their adventures in Night City, the improved photo mode in Update 2.2 offers a range of new options. Players can experiment with different camera angles, aspect ratios, and lighting effects to create stunning images. Whether you’re capturing a high-octane chase through the neon-lit streets or a quiet moment of reflection on a rooftop, the enhanced photo mode provides all the tools needed to produce professional-quality shots.

Johnny Silverhand’s Return

One of the more immersive features of this update is the occasional appearance of Johnny Silverhand, the iconic character played by Keanu Reeves, in the passenger seat while V is driving. This unexpected interaction adds a layer of depth to the game’s narrative and makes for some memorable in-game moments.

Update 2.2 isn’t just about adding new features; it’s about giving players more freedom to express themselves within the game. These enhancements deepen the connection players have with their characters and vehicles, making the Cyberpunk 2077 experience even more personal and engaging. The continued support and updates from CD Projekt Red demonstrate their commitment to improving the game and delivering on their promise to the community.

As Night City grows and evolves, so too does the potential for unique player experiences. Whether you’re a longtime resident or a newcomer to its sprawling streets, Cyberpunk 2077’s latest update ensures there’s always something new to discover and enjoy.

CD Projekt Red announces big Cyberpunk 2077 & The Witcher news

In a major announcement, CD Projekt Red has revealed that The Witcher 4, codenamed Project Polaris, has entered full-scale production. This marks a significant milestone for the studio as they gear up to develop the first installment in a new Witcher trilogy.

Alongside this exciting news, CD Projekt Red also announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed 30 million copies sold worldwide.

The Witcher 4, also part of Project Polaris (the new trilogy including a new story line which will not focus on Geralt Of Rivia), has moved from pre-production to full-scale development. CD Projekt Red’s joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, expressed pride in the team’s progress and dedication to delivering a remarkable experience.

And two Cyberpunk news

Cyberpunk 2077 continues to perform strongly in the market, with the game recently crossing the 30 million copies sold milestone. The Phantom Liberty expansion, which featured actor Idris Elba in a major role, has sold over eight million copies since its release in September 2023.

These impressive figures highlight the game’s enduring popularity and the dedicated community that continues to support it.

Also, CD Projekt announced last October that it was collaborating with media company Anonymous Content on a live-action project set in the world of Cyberpunk and also, this week it was confirmed that it’s working on a new Cyberpunk animation project which will be released on Netflix, but at this time is unknown if this will serve another storyline or will follow Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

In addition to The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red is working on several other projects. These include a new IP codenamed Project Hadar, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 codenamed Project Orion, and a new game set in the Witcher universe titled Project Sirius.

Don’t expect a PS5 Pro patch for Cyberpunk 2077 at least soon

Apparently, neither V and Johnny Silverhand got the memo that Sony was going to launch a mid-gen upgrade for Playstation now known as PS5 Pro, and with the technical appealing that Sony wants to sell to developers, many believes that Cyberpunk 2077 could be a good example on the new graphical peaks consol speaking.

But it will not be the case at least in the short term.

In a recent announcement, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that there are no plans to release a PS5 Pro patch for Cyberpunk 2077. This news comes as a disappointment to many fans who were hoping for enhanced performance and visuals on Sony’s latest console.

The studio shared the update via a tweet, stating simply, “We currently have no plans for PS5 Pro patch.” While the game runs well on the PS5, many fans were optimistic about the potential improvements a PS5 Pro patch could bring.

CD Projekt Red is currently focusing on other projects, including the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and The Witcher 4. These projects are likely taking precedence over further updates to the original game.

Despite the lack of a PS5 Pro patch, Cyberpunk 2077 remains a visually stunning and engaging experience on the PS5, and it’s also available on PC and Xbox Series S/X. The game’s Phantom Liberty expansion continues to offer new content and adventures across all platforms.

While it’s a letdown for PS5 Pro owners, the future looks bright for fans of CD Projekt Red’s games with exciting new titles on the horizon.
